Bionic Beauty- The Future of the Fashion Industry

These stars emergence shouldn’t be anything out of the ordinary. This post is really a celebration of what makes these people different. It is a celebration of beauty and uniqueness that exceeds our expectation of beauty.

Viktoria Modesta Moskalova

Born with a dislocated hip, Viktoria Modesta spent most of her childhood in and out of hospitals. she had a voluntary below-the-knee leg amputation at the age of twenty to improve her mobility and safeguard her future health. Her physicality has become known for challenging the modern perception of altered beauty.

Moskalova began modelling at the age of fifteen. She has appeared on subculture magazine covers such as Bizarre and Skin Two.  she took Torture Garden Clothing to Zagreb for the high fashion week “Croa Porter” show.

Now she is praised for as  “the world’s first amputee pop artist”

She performed at the closing ceremony at the Paralympic Games in 2012, however certain doors have remained closed due to her amputeeism. Now channel 4 funded a campaign ‘Born Risky’ which funded and paid to air her song in an ad break during the X factor final on Sunday. It has now recieved more than 10 million views on the Channel 4 website, and another 1.5 million on Youtube.

The promo presents Viktoria, every inch a new contemporary artist … but with a difference that sets her apart from the idealized form of a pop artist. A prosthetic limb. It is a difference too far for the music industry to date, and the reason why Channel 4 has given her this important platform.

“I’m the model of the future” She sings.

she told a magazine it is “inevitable” that different body types will become acceptable, even in the industries – fashion and music – that she is trying to break into, where ideals of beauty and perfection are still very narrow.

“There needs to be more variety, but it’s not even about the industry, it’s about the acceptance that needs to happen beyond that. People need to stop feeling freaked out, tabooed, offended, superior or inferior when they stand next to a person with a different body to themselves.”

Three years on, after a battle with depression and alcoholism, Minsky decided to quit drinking and focus on physical fitness. The decision paid off immediately.

After being found at the gym by a photographer, they did some test shots where his career took off.

That guy was photographer Tom Cullis.

“Alex has inspired me to look at beauty differently,” he said.

Mr Minsky is now an up-and-coming face on the fashion scene and photographer’s muse. Alex is a rising star in the fashion industry as a male model.

I loved the stories of both models who exceed the idealistic views and I hope that they change the industry for as they are the future of the industry.
